My Bentley Story by Alex Grieve
Alumnus/a, Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I have so many fond memories during my four years at Bentley that it is almost impossible to choose just one. Luckily enough I was able to attend the school through the Division 1 hockey program. The sport opened up so many doors for me and it was pretty amazing to already have 25 friends waiting for me as soon as I stepped on campus for the first time.
Playing for the hockey team at Bentley meant that you had to sacrifice some things in order to compete. Christmas time was usually hard on players as we rarely got more than week off to spend with family and friends between exams and practices. Players would have to leave home on Christmas night or early morning the day after to return to Waltham to get ready for upcoming days.
Although the holiday season in my junior year (2013), I couldn't be more excited to get back to school. This was the highlight of Undergrad and possible the highlight of my hockey career. We were fortunate enough to be granted a regular season game under the bright lights of Fenway Park. A true once in a lifetime opportunity for us. We were able to practice at the park the day before which was an amazing experience as we could take in all the scenes and make sure we could capture perfect pictures. It was by far the best practice I've ever had and even sat in David Ortiz's stall to get ready. I thought it would bring me some good luck.
We couldn't of had a better temperature to play under and the conditions were perfect. Coach Soderquest's message to us before the game was simple: we need to win this game to make it a perfect memory for us to have for the rest of our lives. You better believe we did that. We beat Holy Cross 3-2 with our families and classmates cheering for us in the crisp December air. It was a memory that I will cherish forever and hold it very close to my heart.
Bentley has given me so many memories and I am so thankful for all of them, but winning this game in Boston''s cathedral will always be my favourite.
Happy birthday Bentley
