My Bentley Story by Andy Aylesworth
Faculty, Waltham, Massachusetts
In my twenty-plus (really??) years at Bentley I've accumulated some wonderful memories: the General Motors Marketing Internship classes, trips to the Bahamas, student run conferences, witnessing a national championship, and developing some very deep and lasting friendships with students, some of whom I consider among my best friends. It's hard to limit these memories to just one, but I guess what really stands out for me were the "bookend" Baccalaureate addresses I did in 2002 and 2005. In the first, in order to drive home the point that students should take chances and be willing to fail, I sang "Build Me Up Buttercup" and wound up with 500+ backup singers. In the second, in order to illustrate the results of not being afraid to fail and the good things that can happen when you do take chances, I used my then two month old daughter as a prop, and brought her out to introduce her to an adoring graduating class. There's much, much more, but those moments stand out for me.
