My primary teaching areas include economic development, international trade and finance, the European Union, and intermediate micro- and macroeconomics. My research in the field of economic development has focused primarily on immigration and remittances. I have also published in the areas of U.S. media exports (especially movies), agricultural investment in Mexico, and the U.S. Medicaid program. Some of my current papers include immigration in the European Union, moving and marriage in the United States, and the educational background of corporate CEOs. I have had papers published in several academic journals including Contemporary Economic Policy, Demography, Economics of Education Review, International Trade Journal, Journal of Developing Areas and the Review of Development Economics. I have presented papers at many domestic and international conferences including those of the American Economic Association, Southern Economic Association, Western Economic Association, Eastern Economic Association, European Society of Population Economics and the International Atlantic Economic Society.
