Sports - Superbowl Champion: Dallas Cowboys; Stanley Cup Winner: Boston Bruins; NBA Champions: Los Angeles Lakers; World Series Champions: Oakland A’s.

Current Events - Five men apprehended attempting to bug the Democratic National Committee, beginning the Watergate scandal;
U.S. Supreme Court rules Death Penalty unconstitutional; Atari introduces “Pong”, the first video game.
  
Music - “American Pie” by Don McLean, “Let's Stay Together” by Al Green; Best Song of the Year: “You've Got a Friend” by Carole King; Best New Artist: Carly Simon.
        
Movies - “The Godfather”, “Deliverance”, “Dirty Harry”; Academy Awards, Best Picture: “The French Connection”.
