Joaquin E. Bacardi III '89


Joaquin E. Bacardi III is president and chief executive officer of Bacardi Corporation. Named to the position in March 2008, he is responsible for managing the day-to-day business operations and marketing for the Caribbean region, Bermuda and the Bahamas.

He also manages the popular Casa Bacardi Visitor Center at the company’s distillery in Catano, Puerto Rico, and serves on the company’s North American Global Executive Committee.

In April 2010, Mr. Bacardi unveiled the largest wind turbine installation in Puerto Rico, which provides approximately 80 percent of the electricity required to run its San Juan distillery, the world’s largest rum distillery.

Throughout his 18-year career with Bacardi, Mr. Bacardi has held a variety of management and leadership positions. After serving three years as product manager for Nestle Puerto Rico, in 1993 he was named senior product manager at Bacardi Corporation. In 1998, Mr. Bacardi assumed the role of vice president/ senior director of Bacardi global brands. In 2005, he became senior global brand director for Dewar’s Scotch leading all global brand strategies and resource allocation.

Mr. Bacardi received his bachelor’s degree in business and communications from Bentley College in 1989, and an MBA with a concentration in strategic marketing and consulting from MIT Sloan School of Management in 1998.

Mr. Bacardi and his wife Sonia Margarida live in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico. They have three children, Eduardo, Guillermo and Carolina.
