Dr. Cappuccio received his PhD in Philosophy from the University of Pavia in Italy.  His  research aims to deepen the embodied framework of analytical philosophy of mind, its convergence with the phenomeno-
logical tradition, and its applications to cognitive neurosciences.  His work is inspired by some of the key concepts offered by the emerging fields of enactive cognition, situated robotics, and non-representational models of motor-intentionality. Cappuccio’s PhD dissertation and his actual research are specifically devoted to mirror neurons and to the phenomenological implications of their intentional functions. He is especially interested in a few particular theoretical problems related to the definition of goal-oriented action (motor intentionality, non-representational models of intelligent action planning) and to social interaction
(intention understanding, empathy, joint action).

Cappuccio’s research in Bentley will focus on the cognitive processes underlying the understanding and the prediction of the other’s goals in hierarchically organized motor-chains, with reference to the social deficits of autistic subjects, through which he expects to provide an original theory of decision by relying on the concepts of motor intentionality and embodied simulation. He is a former Visiting Researcher at the University of Stirling.

Dr. McNamee received a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Massachusetts Medical School, in Worcester. He doctoral thesis, titled “Damage-induced apoptosis in the presence and absence of the tumor suppressor, p53” focused on mechanisms of cancer cell survival and death. Her work at Bentley will consider the path by which the biotechnology industry builds on scientific discovery to develop products for public benefit. Of particular importance is an integrated analysis of development-stage technologies, biotechnology business models, and patterns of capital investment to identify ways to improve the efficiency of bringing new products to consumers and clinical practice.  She will be working closely with Professor Fred Ledley during her tenure at Bentley.
