Nash Wins 1500 at Northeastern Husky Spring Open

DEDHAM, Mass. -- Following impressive cross country and indoor seasons, Bentley University senior Melissa Nash (Marshfield/Marshfield HS) opened her final outdoor track season in style Saturday, by winning the 1500 meters during the Northeastern Husky Spring Open at the Solomon Track.

Competing in a field of 43, Nash posted a time of 4:53.87, finishing nearly two seconds in front of runner-up Madeline Wrable (unattached). Also in the 1500, Bentley freshman Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./Amsterdam HS) was ninth in 5:12.57.

Bentley's other victory in the multi-team meet came in the 4x100 relay, with the quartet of senior Rebecca Ciccarelli (Natick/Natick HS), juniors Kasey Conway (North Reading/North Reading HS) and Monica Czurylo (Portland, Maine/Deering HS), and sophomore Corinne Flieger (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) teaming for a winning effort of 51.90 seconds.

Each of those four also turned in solid efforts in other events. All but Flieger competed in the 100 meter dash with Ciccarelli placing seventh of 37 in 13.63 seconds, Conway 10th (13.93) and Czurylo 11th (13.99). Flieger was sixth of 17 in the 100 meter hurdles, posting a time of 17.31 seconds.

Bentley had three runners finish in the top ten of a 27-runner field in the 800, with senior Amy Papalia (Marlboro/Marian HS) second (2:29.30), freshman Maddy McDonnell (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignasius College Prep) eighth (2:33.23) and sophomore Rachel Graham (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset HS) tenth (2:38.23).

Freshman Keisha Johnson (Randolph/Randolph HS) made her outdoor collegiate debut, finishing second of five in the triple jump (33'1") and sixth of 12 in the long jump (14'8.75").
