Marerro, Johnson Turn in Solid Performances for Bentley Women at Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Fifth-place finishes by freshmen Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./ Amsterdam HS) and Keisha Johnson (Randolph, Mass./Randolph HS) were amongst the top performances by members of the Bentley University women's track team during the Brown Springtime Invitational Sunday afternoon at Brown University.

Marrero was fifth of 15 in the 3,000 meters, posting a time of 10:48.98. Three of the four runners to finish in front of her were from Division I programs, including two from the host institution.

Johnson was fifth of 11 overall in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, 1.25 inches. She trailed two athletes from Brown, one from the University of Rhode Island and one from the Greater Boston Track Club.

Team season-bests were achieved in four events during the meet with sophomore Kasey Kearney (Syracuse, N.Y./CBA) throwing the shot 31 feet, 4.5 inches, junior Sarah Brooks (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth HS) clearing 4 feet, 10.25 inches in the high jump, and senior Rebecca Ciccarelli (Natick, Mass./Natick HS) running the 200 meters in 27.21 seconds.

In addition, Ciccarelli teamed with freshman Natalie Caldwell (Greenbrae, Calif./Redwood HS) and juniors Kasey Conway (North Reading, Mass./North Reading HS) and Monica Czurylo (Portland, Maine/Deering HS) for a season-best time of 51.72 seconds in the 4x100 relay.

Bentley will compete in the Northeast-10 Conference Championships Saturday at UMass-Lowell.
