WALTHAM, Mass. -- Seniors Sam Laden (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS) and Greg McFadden (Wenonah, N.J./Gateway Reg. HS) will serve as captains of the 2009-10 Bentley University men's swimming and diving teams.
Laden enters his final season as the school record holder in all three breaststroke events, with times of 27:36 seconds in the 50 yard breast, 58.33 in the 100 and 2:07.79 in the 200. He also has a share of the school records in four relays (200 and 400 free, 200 and 400 medley).
Laden's junior year was highlighted by a gold medal in the 200 breast at the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Championships, and five silvers in the same meet (100 breast, 100 individual medley and three relays). At the Northeast-10 Championships, he finished third in the 100 breast and two relays.
McFadden was third in the 200 IM, seventh in the 100 IM and eighth in the 200 IM at the NEISDA Championships last February. At the conference meet, he helped Bentley to a pair of third place relay finishes.
McFadden, who formerly had a share of the school record in the 800 free relay, is one of the team's most valuable members due to his ability to score in any event, including diving.
Bentley opens its season Wednesday night with a home meet against Gordon College.
