WALTHAM, Mass. - Freshman Brett Hartung (Tallahassee, Fla./Wichita Falls Wildcats) of the Bentley University hockey team has been named the Atlantic Hockey Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday. Hartung scored three goals over the weekend against Army, including two in Saturday's 4-3 win.
Hartung was instrumental in Saturday's win, scoring two second period goals and helping the Falcons rally from a 1-0 deficit entering the period. His first goal came 2:37 in and tied the score at one. He found the back of the net again with 1:25 left in the period to give his team a 3-1 advantage. The two goals is the most scored by a Bentley freshman since Erik Peterson (Shorewood, Minn./Sioux Falls Stampede) scored twice against Air Force on Feb. 1, 2008.
Hartung also scored in Friday's game and now has four goals on the season, which is tied for second on the team with Peterson.
Hartung is the first Bentley player to win an Atlantic Hockey weekly award this season.
The Falcons will play at Brown on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
