Brust Wins 200 Backstroke at NE-10 Championships, Her 2nd Gold of Meet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Bentley sophomore Arden Brust (Newark, N.Y./Newark HS) captured the 200 yard backstroke Saturday night at the Northeast-10 Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, her second gold in as many days. Friday, she was the winner of the 100 back.

Brust easily won the 200 back with a conference record time of 2:14.97. Southern Connecticut's Kayla Fisher was a distant second, touching more than two seconds after Brust.

Brust, who medaled in all seven events in which she competed in the two-day meet, earned silver in the 200 individual medley (2:17.81), was second in the 200 medley relay (1:56.64) and was third in the 400 free relay (3:47.01).

Brust's outstanding meet helped the Falcons to a third-place finish in the conference championships. Southern Connecticut State, the host team, won its third straight title with 991 points, while Le Moyne edged Bentley for second place, 766-745. A total of seven teams competed in the meet.

Senior Brianne Tulley (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford HS) medaled in two individual events and one relay on Saturday. She placed second in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.44), third in the 100 free (57.11) and was also part of the 400 free relay.

Also earning individual medals were divers Katrina Kaufman (Belmont, Mass./Belmont HS) and Tezzy Bergantz (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS). Kaufman, a senior, was second in the three-meters (320.25) and Bergantz was third (307.60).

Sophomore Liza Connolly (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley HS) was part of both Bentley scoring relays, the 400 free and 200 medley. The former also included sophomore Allison Colarusso (Middleboro, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy HS) and the latter included freshmen Kaitlin Chepeleff (Vernon, Conn./Rockville HS) and Kristen Thuerk (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire HS).

Bentley will not return to action until Jan. 7.
