Brust Leads Bentley Women in Cardinal Invitational

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. - Sophomore Arden Brust (Newark, N.Y./Newark NS) was the top performer for the Bentley women's swim team during Saturday's Cardinal Invitational at Wesleyan University.

Brust accounted for 81 of her team's 675 points by finishing second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:02.83) and third in the 200 free relay (1:44.54), 200 individual medley (2:18.30), 400 medley relay (4:18.17), 400 IM (4:47.92) and 800 free relay (8:24.40).

Next on the scoring list for Bentley, with 73 and 54 points, respectively, were sophomore Liza Connolly (Washington, Conn./Shepaug Valley HS) and senior Brianne Tulley (Chelmsford, Mass. /Chelmsford HS). Connolly was third in two relays and the 100 butterfly (1:03.19), and fourth in the 50 free (26.12). Tulley was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:13.34) and three relays.

Junior Katrina Kaufman (Belmont, Mass./Belmont HS) had Bentley's other second-place finish, earning silver with a score of 172.05 on the three-meter board. She was also fourth on the one-meter (161.80). Junior Tessy Bergantz (Trumbull, Conn./Trumbull HS) was third in both diving events, with scores of 180.10 on the one-meter and 167.55 on the three.

Sophomore Allison Colarusso (Middleboro, Mass./Coyle-Cassidy HS) had a pair of fourths, in the 50 and 100 breast, with times of 34.06 and 1:14.02. Also earning a third was Breda O'Connor (Dedham, Mass./Ursuline Academy) in the 50 breast (31.81).

Bentley was fourth amongst four teams in the meet, but due to scheduling restrictions, did not compete in the 12 events contested on Sunday. Wesleyan won its own meet with 1,177 points.

Bentley will return to Connecticut this coming weekend for the Northeast-10 Conference Championships.
