The 2009-10 tennis season will be Alex Wong’s seventh as Bentley University’s women’s tennis coach and his fifth as the men's tennis coach.

Last season, Wong led both teams to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in three years.

The women’s team went 10-2 in the NE-10 and finished in second place finish in the regular season. His team advanced to the finals of the NE-10 Tournament and were given an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The men’s team finished third in the conference with an 8-2 record, advanced to the semifinals of the NE-10 Tournament and were given an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament as well.

Overall, the men have been to both the NCAA Tournament and the finals of the Northeast-10 tournament three times under Wong’s guidance. The women have been to the NCAA Tournament twice and the finals of the NE-10 Tournament once.

In his four years leading the men, Wong’s teams have gone 46-42 overall and 32-10 in the NE-10. On the women’s side, his teams have posted a 57-14 mark in conference play and are 70-55 overall since he began his collegiate coaching career in 2003.

2006-07 was the first year Wong’s teams completed the NCAA Tournament double. The women’s team won a share of the Northeast-10 Conference regular season title and the men’s team reached the Northeast-10 Conference championship match for the second year in a row. Both teams were given at-large bids to the NCAA Tournament.

In his first season at the helm of the men’s team in 2005-06, Wong led the Falcons to the NCAA Tournament, the team’s first appearance in the tourney since 1996.

Wong, a native of Newton, came to Bentley in August 2003 following his graduation from Wesleyan University, where he spent four years as the #1 singles player for the Cardinals. He was ranked in the top 15 in the East Region his final three seasons, climbing as high as eighth in the east and #32 nationally in 2002. He was also named All-NESCAC in 2002.

"Alex has a very impressive resume in his young career already. He has great enthusiasm and energy, and all the qualities you look for in a coach," said Bentley Athletics Director Bob DeFelice upon his appointment in 2003. "There was some concern about his lack of experience, but like I always say, if experience were a prerequisite for being hired none of us would have a job."

In his college years, Wong was a tennis professional at several clubs in the area, most recently at the Wellesley Country Club. In the past five years, Wong has served as a pro at New England Team Tennis in Concord, the Oakley Country Club in Watertown, and at the Belmont Country Club. Wong is currently the Director of Tennis at the Sudbury River Tennis Club in Framingham during the summer months. He has coached and taught kids of all ages and abilities as well as adults and also trained junior competitors for regional and national events.
