Leave of Absence
If you wish to take time away from campus, you should apply for a leave of absence. A leave of absence must be for at least a semester, and may be granted for up to two years.
There are four different types of leave that you can take:
- Non-Bentley study abroad experience
- Medical (If you plan to take a medical leave of absence, you must set up a meeting with the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs before completing the paperwork.)
To apply for leave of absence, you must print and complete the Leave of Absence Form, which requires several signatures. The final signature to be obtained is the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs. You should submit the form to our office in Lewis Hall or via email at email@example.com.
Before applying for leave of absence, please note that:
While on a leave of absence, you will not have access to Bentley’s residence halls, events, or activities.
If you have received a Title IV loan, and your leave lasts more than 120 days, your loan will go into repayment at the end of its grace period.
Leave of Absence Return Process
To return from leave of absence, you must complete the Return/Readmit Form and submit it to the Office of the Registrar by March 1 to return for the summer or fall and October 1 to return for the spring. To return from a medical leave of absence, the form must be returned to the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs in Lewis Hall or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you decide to leave the university permanently, you should apply for a withdrawal. Once the withdrawal process is complete, you are no longer a Bentley student. Should you change your mind after the process is complete, you would need to reapply.
