Much of the Convocation tradition derives from medieval English custom, when kings and kings’ courts were closely associated with Oxford University and the church. The ceremony begins with the ceremonial marshal carrying the mace, followed by the faculty, staff, and administration of the university. During the ceremony, the new class is addressed by the Bentley president as well as other members of the Bentley community. At the end, the class leaves as one and walks to their first classes to start their academic careers.
