W. Michael Hoffman Prize in Business Ethics

The W. Michael Hoffman Prize was first announced at the Center for Business Ethics (CBE) 20th Anniversary Celebration in October of 1996. The prize was established by the Center’s corporate advisory board and executive fellows to honor Dr. Hoffman, the Center’s founder and executive director.
Two prizes of $1,000 each are awarded annually to a Bentley undergraduate student and a graduate student or PhD student. The prizes are based on papers written in any undergraduate or graduate course. Papers nominated for the prize should demonstrate academic strength and must include a business ethics component. For example, a paper might address a specific type of ethical problem in a business context, or it might deal with the general ethical implications of a business decision(s). Papers can be in the form of an essay, a short story, a case analysis, or a research paper. There is no stipulation concerning length, although it is assumed that papers will be representative of a normal course assignment.
To be eligible for the prize, the winners must be achieving their degrees during the current academic year. If a paper is co-authored, at least one of the co-authors must be graduating during the current academic year. The $1,000 prize will be divided equally among the co-authors. Please keep in mind, if you have an ethics paper(s) from this past fall or spring semesters or ANYTIME within the graduating student’s years here at Bentley, these papers are eligible, also.
To receive consideration, by the Hoffman committee, all nominations should be emailed to Mary Chiasson at mchiasson@bentley.edu no later than March 19, 2010.
