Stoneham Boys & Girls Club

Program Mission Statement

The Stoneham Boys & Girls Club is an after-school program that intends to mentor and serve school-aged children. Stoneham’s mission is to fulfill the mission of the Boys & Girls Club of Stoneham (i.e., “to inspire and enable all young people especially those who need us most to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens...to enrich the lives of girls and boys whom other youth agencies have difficult in reaching...to ensure that all children within and around the [Stoneham] community have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape better futures") by enabling our students (4th-credit, embedded, volunteer, etc.) to form lasting, organic mentor-mentee relationships built on reciprocal learning and mutual takeaways.

Program Description

By pairing a paid director with Bentley University students and the children of the center, the program provides homework help, academic enrichment, and sports activities in the gym as well as arts and crafts. The center promotes a safe culture where the children can spend their time after school gaining access to resources they may not find at home. The Bentley students serve as more than just volunteers, they act as both mentors and role models who are able to help the students realize that college is an option for their future.
