Computer Information Systems

NEW ELECTIVE FOR SPRING 2009

CS 299 - Web 2.0:  Technology, Strategy, Community

How does subscribing to RSS feeds keep you informed?
How does Google Ads make money for your company?
How does Facebook bring people together?
How does Wikipedia decide what articles get included?
How does flickr organize all those pictures?
How does YouTube promote online communities?
How does Twitter change the way people communicate?

This course examines the impact of Web 2.0 tools and applications on social and business processes, and their underlying technologies through both case studies and hands-on experience.

This is an experimental course. It is an A&S elective that counts toward the CIS, IPM, and IDCC minors, and the Media Arts and Society LSM.

Prerequisite: IT 101

Overview

Computer Information Systems is one of the top majors on campus in terms of average starting salary and job placement. A CIS Major prepares you for a variety of careers and industries, including:

  • Project Management
  • Change Management
  • Design and Implementation of New Systems
  • IT Consulting
  • IT Auditing
  • IT Marketing and Sales

Effective use of information technology is the mark of a successful enterprise in the 21st century. Virtually every business-policy decision is intertwined with the application of information technology to plan, produce, market, manage and service business functions.

Building on the foundation of the General Education and Business Core, the CIS program will equip you to understand the capabilities and implications of information technology. A campus-wide strength in technology ensures that all Bentley students are well prepared for the demands of today’s corporate environment, with competency in “best-of-breed” methodologies and tools for information systems development.

At Bentley, we ready students for the new realities of doing business in an information-driven, technology-rich global marketplace. That means firsthand experience with the same high-tech tools that companies use every day. It’s no surprise that the Princeton Review ranks Bentley third among the nation’s “Top 25 Most Connected Campuses.”
