Class of 2008 Book
Fast Food Nation
The class book and the events surrounding it—the visit by the author, community conversations, the use of the book in courses—are intended to create a central intellectual focus for the first-year class and all who care to join in.
This year's selection, Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser was chosen by the committee because it deals with business and economic issues in a large political, social, and cultural context. The college provides all incoming students a copy of this year's book as a warm welcome to the educational community they are joining. Over the next several months, students in the Class of 2008 will be reading and discussing this compelling book as well as participating in a wide variety of activities in connection with it.
Fast Food Nation may be discussed in many first year courses, including History, Government, Expository Writing, World of Business, Legal Environment of Business, Sociology, Philosophy, Psychology, and the First Year Seminar. Studying this work is a first step for new Bentley students in learning to think critically about historical events and contemporary issues.
