As Amy Lee describes in her companion session, AARP conducted a study of how well 50 typical web sites that were not specifically developed for older adults work for those older adults. Short on time, we innovated an alternative to usability testing in which we used AARP's personas, relevant high-level tasks, and heuristics derived from an extensive review of relevant literature. This methodology has precedents in other work, but it may be new to many usability practitioners and researchers. In this highly interactive and fun session, Ginny Redish describes the methodology and leads conference attendees through a practical example and discussion.
