Variability within peer groups increases as people age. Designing electronic communications and information products for senior citizens therefore necessitates coping with this diversity. Several recent studies will be discussed suggesting that interfaces for the general public could be designed to give easily available options concerning characteristics of the presentation, such as its modality (written or spoken text, or both) and its representational form (pictures or words or both). The conclusion reached is that, thanks to recent advances in technology, "usability" does not need to assume that one size will fit all.
