Academic Advising Award

The winner of this year’s Joseph M. Cronin Award for Excellence in Academic Advising is David Szymanski, assistant professor in the Natural and Applied Sciences Department.

David is an incredibly dedicated faculty adviser and mentor to students. He engages students outside of the classroom through his work as an LSM advisor, a First-Year Seminar adviser, and an undergraduate research mentor. Always willing to make time for students, David has earned the appreciation of the many who reach out to him for advice and guidance.

One nominating student described how significant David’s help on his LSM culminating project had been:

“… Professor Szymanksi has been an excellent mentor, even though he isn't my official project adviser. He's helped me structure my project in a way that complements what I've learned here at Bentley, and provides me with the opportunity to research topics that will be useful to me during the start of my career.”

Another student described the thoughtful quality of David’s advice:

“Not only is he concerned about my academic curriculum, I believe Professor Szymanski is truly concerned about my success. He definitely considers the issue seriously before giving his opinion. I am very thankful for all the help I have received from him…. “

Comments such as these make clear why the Academic Advising Advisory Board was pleased to select David as this year’s Faculty Adviser of the Year.
