First Week

First Week is a program designed to make your transition to college life as easy as possible. The 2009 program for all new students is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, to Monday, September 7, 2009.

Throughout the week, you will attend mandatory information sessions and academic classes such as English and math. In addition, you will pick and choose from a variety of elective sessions on topics such as working on campus, study abroad, getting to know Boston and the local area, as well as living on campus.

Residential students will move into their housing assignments on Tuesday, September 1. Students not living in university housing will commute to campus for classes, workshops and social events, just as you would during the semester.

Important Announcement from the Office of Undergraduate Advising:
We hope you are enjoying the last remaining days of your summer vacation.  We are looking forward to your arrival on Tuesday and we are busy putting the finishing touches to a very exciting first week program.

There are two important messages that we want to communicate to you about the week.

First, many of you have called about selecting elective sessions prior to your arrival on Tuesday.  You do not need to select your elective sessions at this time. Your first year seminar instructor will go over all of the details about the week and your elective session requirements during your seminar class on Tuesday afternoon.

Second, many of you have called about making fall schedule changes.  We will not allow you to change your schedules until Thursday afternoon (September 3rd).  There is a reason for this restriction. Your first week schedule is based on your fall schedule of classes. Therefore, any changes to your fall schedule would also necessitate changes to your first week schedule. By waiting until Thursday afternoon we will minimize any potential first week schedule conflicts. If you are required to change your schedule on Thursday because of AP scores or transfer credit you should do so only with guidance and assistance from the Undergraduate Academic Advising center located in the Academic Services office where academic advisers will be available to assist you.  Do not attempt to make changes to your schedule by yourself.  There is plenty of help available in the Office of Academic Services, located in LaCava 298 (ask your seminar instructors when you meet with them where it is located).

If you have ordered text books already and need to exchange them because of schedule changes you will have until September 15 to return the books for a full refund. However, you must remember to bring your receipt in order to get a full refund (so keep your receipt in a safe place!!).

The bookstore will be open on Saturday (September 5) from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday (September 6) from noon to 5:00 p.m.

These are good days to return and purchase books as the upperclassmen will not
return to campus until Monday and you will avoid long lines!

Best wishes and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
