Foundation in Business

Unlike most summer programs, the Business Gateway Program offers graduate credit for the four courses in the curriculum. Professors are full-time faculty at the McCallum Graduate School, with research expertise and professional experience that cover the business spectrum. Current graduate students offer tutoring and help in clarifying course concepts. The courses are:

Marketing Management
Explore the tasks and decisions that marketing professionals face in a networked, global economy. Topics include competitive analysis, customer behavior, and the process of designing and implementing strategy for domestic and international markets. The course also focuses on the role of the Internet, as a distribution channel and as a link to customers.

Accounting for Decision-Making
Learn the accounting concepts that point the way to effective business decisions. Students study the elements of financial statements, along with the principles that guide financial reporting. Other topics are accrual basis accounting, revenue recognition issues, and measuring intangible assets.

Financial Statement Analysis for Decision-Making
Build a portfolio of financial tools and concepts to evaluate a firm’s performance and guide decision-making that adds demonstrable value within a corporation. Course topics include ratio analysis, creation of pro forma financial statements for forecasting, and decisions related to capital budgeting.

Managing People in Organizations
Gain knowledge and skills for managing effectively in today’s complex, information-intensive organizations. In addition to considering topics such as motivation, interpersonal communication, diversity, and team management, students learn to diagnose managerial situations and develop appropriate action plans.
