The Graduate Student Association, and its sister organizations, invites everyone on Bentley’s campus to participate in our first annual Graduate Springfest on Friday, April 25, 2014.  We have a day full of activities tied to our theme of “Collaboration, Competition, Culture and Comedy”.  Each event is detailed below, and we strongly encourage both graduates and undergraduates to participate in this celebratory day!

SPRINGFEST IS OPEN TO ALL BENTLEY STUDENTS!
Daytime activities are free and open to all – with prize money for professional and academic competitions totaling nearly $10,000!
Our evening events are ticketed and tickets are limited, so be sure to get yours quickly!  Tickets go on-sale TOMORROW, April 18th at 11am!!  A ticket to the evening’s festivities gets you access to THREE events - our cultural performance showcase, Saturday Night Live’s Head Writer and “Weekend Update” Anchor Colin Jost’s comedy show and our Cultural Food Festival featuring a diverse offering of  Indian, Persian, Spanish, German, European and Chinese cuisines!

Want to compete with fellow Bentley students for prize money?!  Now is your chance!  Whether it is a Game Show format or a Private Equity Pitch, these competitions were designed by students FOR students in an effort to showcase Bentley’s talent in a variety of different areas.  Competitions begin at 10am and run throughout the day until our big evening events!  Participate in one or all of these events and WIN BIG – total prize money is nearly $10,000!
If competition is not for you, all of our sister organizations will be set up in the library quad (facing Adamian).  Stop by for cotton candy or afternoon snacks and learn more about graduate student organizations and student life!  Games and Music will be played throughout the day – don’t miss it!

Cultural Performance Showcase!

The first of three events that a Springfest ticket gets you access to will showcase the diverse culture and talents of Bentley graduate student organizations.
Performances will celebrate culture throughout the world and will feature live music, dancing, a fashion show and much more!  This event kicks off a fun-filled night, so be sure to arrive early and see the talents of the Bentley community!

Comedy Show with Saturday Night Live’s Colin Jost!

Our signature event, and second of three ticketed events, features comedian, writer and actor Colin Jost - who most recently joined Cecily Strong as co-anchor of "Saturday Night Live's" “Weekend Update” on this season’s SNL.  Since joining the SNL writing staff in 2005, Jost has won three Writers Guild Awards, a Peabody Award and has been nominated for eight Emmy Awards, while rising to the role of Head Writer for the show.  A 2004 graduate of Harvard University, Jost was president of the Harvard Lampoon.  He recently wrote and starred in the Paramount film "Staten Island Summer," based on his days as a lifeguard, scheduled to premiere later this year.

Immediately following Colin Jost’s performance, there will be a cultural food festival in LaCava 375. The food festival will include a diverse offering of: Indian, Persian, Spanish, German, European and Chinese cuisines.  This is the final event of Springfest and is the third and final ticketed event of the evening.

Details: This event will provide the opportunity for students and business professionals with similar interests to come together to discuss a number of professional designations that are available to us upon completion of certain education and/or work requirements in addition to passing an extremely difficult exam. We plan to provide our members with information on the following designations:

CPA – Certified Public Accountant

CMA – Certified Management Accountant

CFP – Certified Financial Planner

CFA – Chartered Financial Analyst

CAIA – Charted Alternative Investment Analyst

CIMA – Certified Investment Management Analyst

We’ve invited professors, professionals, students currently studying for these exams, as well as students who are considering pursuing one or more of these designations. Details: Wonder what strengths Asians have studying and working in the U.S.? Please come and join us for a panel to learn how to leverage Asian strengths to gain an edge in the U.S. job market from guest speakers with various work experiences. You are also encouraged to bring your own questions to our awesome panel speakers!

The guest speakers are from leading business groups with years of working experience. They are either Asian originated or have the experience working with Asian colleagues. They will give their ideas on how to blend into American culture or share experience of fighting for a successful career in the U.S. You will also get "special recipes" on job hunting and do's and don'ts during networking. There will be a casual Networking Session at the end of the event too.

Details: The purpose of the event is to provide international students with the opportunity to learn more about the U.S tax system and how their income earned here will be taxed. The format will be a panel discussion, with time for individual networking at the end. We plan to include a combination of business professionals and Bentley professors for the expert panel. Topics to be discussed include: income earned from internships and part/full-time positions, scholarships, tax treaties between nations, how to file returns and the appropriate forms, etc. This event will be beneficial for students in all majors, especially for those international students planning to complete an internship or work in the United States after graduation.

The Bentley Business Bowl (BBB) is a one-day, university-wide business case competition held annually and open to ALL registered students – GRADUATE AND UNDERGRADUATE. Teams of five students of the same class code level* compete against other teams of the same level. It is an opportunity for each team to show their skill in solving real-world business dilemmas and to interact and network with business professionals. A panel of judges drawn from alumni and the corporate community evaluate each team’s presentation.

This workshop is designed for first semester International students.  Professor Mary Wright, Coordinator of International Graduate Tutorials and Seminars will conduct an introductory academic orientation to assist international graduate students in learning how to be successful in an American graduate business school.  Those attending will learn about the special tutorial sessions available that include assistance with:  accent reduction, writing papers, class participation and presentations, pronunciation, speaking in a business environment, executive level business vocabulary, and general academic cultural adaptation issues.
