Health and Dental Insurance
Health Insurance
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has a Qualifying Student Health Insurance Plan (QSHIP) law that requires all undergraduate students taking 9 or more credit hours, all graduate students registered for 6.75 credit hours or more and all full-time PhD students to carry accident and sickness insurance through a qualifying health insurance provider.
The qualifying student health insurance plan may be either your own private insurance plan provided coverage meets the state's requirements or the student health insurance plan offered at a charge by Bentley University which meets the legal requirements. (see Division of Health Care Policy and Financing Regulation under section 114.6 CMR 3.00 proposed regulation dated october 2008 available here)
Graduate students taking less than 6.75 credits are NOT required by this law to have health insurance as defined above, nor are the required to show proof of immunizations. However, if graduate students opt to take more than 6.75 credits, then they would have to comply with state insurance and immunization laws.
All International students are required to purchase the student health insurance plan offered by Bentley University and will automatically be enrolled in the plan. If you have Embassy insurance, you may be eligible to waive the plan. Please contact Student Financial Services at 781.891.2162 to discuss this option.
Massachusetts Residents may be eligible for insurance offered by the state of Massachusetts. More information is available here.

Please note the following:
In order to comply with state law, you need to either WAIVE the school sponsored plan by providing information about your own or your parent's plan, or ENROLL and purchase the school sponsored plan. Both processes are done on-line and students are required to do this each new school year.
All students are automatically pre-enrolled and charged by Student Accounts for the Bentley University plan. To maintain the plan students must ENROLL online. This completes your application and ensures you will receive your insurance card. Students wishing to WAIVE the plan must complete the online WAIVER process. The deadline to ENROLL or WAIVE is January 15th for Spring semester and August 15th for the Fall semester.

Be sure to print out this confirmation page as it is the only proof you will have for waiving the plan.
