Understanding Japanese Society through Language and Culture

Prerequisite: ML151 (Introduction to Japanese Language and Culture I) or equivalent.

Those who have not taken ML151 and/or higher should enroll  ML151 in Spring semester or the Intensive Japanese Course (ML151) in Summer I in order to prepare for participation in the STP  to Japan.

This short-term program is designed to improve your language skills and to provide a deeper understanding of Japanese culture through active communication in real-life situations. You will have the unique opportunity to experience both the old and new Japan during educational visits to historical sites including temples, shrines and traditional factories and cultural events such as Kabuki Theater and a tea ceremony.  You will travel by bullet train from the modern city of Tokyo to the historic city of Kyoto and stay in a traditional Japanese style inn.  All along the way, you will have the opportunity to put your Japanese language skills to work!
