Activist Group Exhibits Art

October 6, 2002

Bentley College presents The Beehive Design Collective through October 31 in the Art Gallery. An opening reception will be held on October 18 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. in the gallery.

Based in Machias, Maine, The Beehive Design Collective uses art as a tool for organizing political campaigns. They have been involved in anti-domestic violence programs and promote alternative ways to deal with abuse. The grassroots environmental group provides original, anti-copyright image files for print or web use as part of their non-profit commitment to the community. The graphics are hand-cut stone mosaics that focus on globalization, militarization and megatechnology The Beehive's most recent work is the Biodiversity Crossroads Mural, a major public mural illustrating a political history of agriculture and its potential futures. Their work is online at www.beehivecollective.org.

The Bentley College Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the LaCava Campus Center. Admission to the gallery is free. Directions to Bentley College are available at 781-891-2100 or on the college web site at www.bentley.edu/directions.
