Aspen Institute Names Bentley McCallum Graduate School One of the Top 100 Graduate Business Schools Internationally in "Beyond Grey Pinstripes" Rankings

October 14, 2007

Beyond Grey Pinstripes, a biennial survey and alternative ranking of business schools by the Aspen Institute, has named the Bentley McCallum Graduate School to its Global 100 list. Bentley entered the rankings at #55 and ranked 2nd in the Northeast in faculty research.

The prestigious biennial ranking of MBA programs highlights schools that incorporate social and environmental issues into the training of future business leaders. (http://beyondgreypinstripes.org/rankings/index.cfm)

In total, over 40,000 pages of data were collected and analyzed from the 111 Pinstripes schools this year (representing an institutional response rate of 18.8%) to reveal the 100 top MBA programs across the globe. Seventy one institutions are located in the United States, and 40 are located internationally (representing 18 countries).

The survey measures four specific categories:

  • Student Opportunity : a simple count of the number of courses that contain social, environmental, and/or ethical content;
  • Student Exposure : indicates the level of exposure students receive to social, environmental, and/or ethical issues within their courses;
  • Course Content : reflects the degree to which courses illustrate the value of integrating social, environmental, and/or ethical considerations into business decisions;
  • Faculty Research: indicates the number of relevant articles published in leading peer-reviewed academic journals.

Bentley College has continuously integrated ethics and social responsibility into its curriculum through teaching, research, and corporate and community relations. These efforts are given stronger emphasis through the Bentley Alliance for Ethics and Social Responsibility. The mission of the Alliance is to amplify and extend the work of autonomous centers and initiatives on campus, support and encourage greater awareness of, respect for and commitment to ethics, service and social responsibility in research, curricula and campus culture.

The six core Centers in the Alliance are:

  • Center for Business Ethics
  • Bentley Service-Learning Center
  • Cronin International Center
  • CyberLaw Center
  • Women's Leadership Institute
  • Valente Center for Arts & Sciences

Key initiatives at Bentley also include a revamped Academic Integrity System, an organization-wide diversity program, a newly constituted Institutional Review Board (IRB), a College Ethics Policy and Oversight Committee, and a series of campus-wide programs that highlight issues associated with ethics and social responsibility.

The McCallum School at Bentley offers one of the most comprehensive graduate business curriculums. The Bentley MBA and eight Master of Science (MS) programs provide a high degree of flexibility and customization, hybrid delivery options (offering both in-class and online participation), and a structure that allows students to build on their prior academic experience.

In addition to the MBA and Master of Science degrees, Bentley offers a dual MS+MBA degree. All programs provide a powerful, student-centered learning environment, innovative curriculum, state-of-the-art facilities and committed teachers and scholars. Students draw on first-rate technological resources including an extensive computing network; an on-site financial Trading Room; use of the leading integrated enterprise software from SAP America; specialized labs for studying accounting systems, marketing, and information design; and research databases and information sources worldwide.

The Aspen Institute Center for Business Education (Aspen CBE) seeks to create business leaders for the 21st century who are equipped with the vision and knowledge necessary to integrate corporate profitability with social value.
