Bentley and Major League Baseball Draft High School Students for Internships
July 24, 2005
Waltham, Mass. -- Four high school students from New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania and Maryland are breaking into the Major Leagues this summer, courtesy of Bentley College.
The four are winners in the "Break into the Business of Baseball" Challenge, sponsored by Bentley and MLB.com. They will spend a portion of their summer serving as interns with four Major League teams - the Boston Red Sox, the New York Mets, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Baltimore Orioles.
Bentley solicited 100-word essays from high school students nationwide - who explained why they should be chosen for one-month internships offered by four Major League Baseball teams. After reviewing more than one thousand entries, the four winners were chosen by Bentley and each Major League team.
"We welcome these students to Major League Baseball. We look forward to their contributions and to offering them a unique perspective on the business side of baseball," said Scott Norwood, Director, Sponsorship and Advertising Sales for MLB.com. "We are proud to have teamed with Bentley to achieve this result."
"The business of baseball is fascinating, and we are delighted to have partnered with MLB.com in this challenge," said Bentley Vice President of Marketing, Sandra King. "This is a real, hands-on experience for each student. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them to experience how a professional sports franchise operates."
