Bentley and Netherlands-based Tilburg University Team Up for IT Summer Graduate Program

July 6, 2006

Bentley College made international connections with Netherlands-based Tilburg University June 10 - 16 as Tilburg tapped into Bentley's key strengths in information technology for the TIAS Business School summer program for executive master's students. Tilburg is one of the leading universities in Europe and the program, which took place on the Bentley campus, aimed to provide TIAS students with a taste of American academic resources and corporate America.

"We were intrigued by the business-IT focus of the Bentley educational and research programs," says Pieter Ribbers, TIAS academic director of the master of information management program. "The main focus of our program is to educate managers who have an understanding of how business is managed and how IS/IT opportunities can be translated into business results. With the changing business dynamics and the enabling power of modern IS/IT, there is a growing need for these types of managers who are able to build bridges."

Bill Wiggins, associate dean of graduate programs at Bentley, said the goal of the Bentley component was "to provide students with a blend of state-of-the-art academic work being done in the "business/IT space and state-of-the-art business practices in process."

Classroom learning in subjects such as information security risks, system usability, sourcing strategies, knowledge management challenges, and IS organizations and their business partners was complemented by corporate visits to EMC, Fidelity, Putnam Investments and State Street Corporation.

Ribbers says that he was impressed by the amount of time that management teams spent with students at the company visits. "Compared to visits with many of the European businesses, their openness was remarkable."
