Bentley University Presents: “The Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer: A Test of Endurance,” February 7
Patrick Gnazzo, the Former Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, CA Technologies, and former Chief Compliance Officer at United Technologies Corporation (UTC) will deliver the keynote lecture in the Verizon Professorship in Business Ethics on Monday, February 7th at 3:30 PM in Wilder Pavilion, Adamian Academic Center at Bentley University.
In his talk, entitled, "The Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer: A Test of Endurance," Gnazzo will draw on his many years of experience on the forefront of the corporate ethics and compliance field to share how one can succeed in this challenging environment. The event is free and open to the public. In addition to his address, Gnazzo will facilitate a faculty workshop on Thursday, February 10 in the Adamian Commons.
As businesses publicly struggle to remain transparent and ethical in today's fast-paced marketplace, with the encouragement of the US Department of Justice, many have responded by establishing a Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer position whose responsibility is to ensure that the policies and activities of companies are both in compliance with the laws as well as in accordance with the established ethical norms of good business conduct. This function has not yet fully taken hold as an essential part of management in many major American corporations and many important questions regarding the role of the ethics officer in responding to ethics challenges remain unanswered. Gnazzo hopes to address such questions and will draw on his vast experience as a leader in this field.
Gnazzo was a pioneer in the development of the corporate ethics and compliance officer movement. At CA Technologies, a $4.4 billion IT management software company, he held several positions associated with the management of corporate ethics, including that of chief compliance officer and chief risk officer. Prior to joining CA, Pat served as chief compliance officer at United Technologies Corporation (UTC) for ten years. In this capacity, Pat managed more than 260 business practice officers worldwide who oversaw the implementation of the company's ethics and compliance programs for all of its 200,000 employees in 180 countries. He retired from CA in September 2010.
