Black and White Etchings on Display in Art Gallery

January 8, 2003

WALTHAM, Mass. - Bentley College presents "All About the Square," an exhibit of black and white etchings by Boston artist Lisa Houck in the Art Gallery January 28 through February 27. An opening reception with the artist will be held on Friday, February 7 from 4:30-7:00 p.m. in the Art Gallery.

In this exhibit Houck uses a square, divided into three, to explore forms and the relationships that develop between them. Why a square? "It is the limitation I have given myself - to work within this boundary line and see what I can do to fill the space with my observations of the natural world as it interacts with human activity," Houck answers in her artist statement.

Lisa Houck earned an MFA from Tufts University/School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and an BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design. She helped found the Tudor Street Etching Studio in Cambridge. She has received grants from the Cambridge Arts Council and a fellowship from the Massachusetts Cultural Council. Her work has been exhibited at the DeCordova Museum, Fuller Museum of Art, Boston Public Library and various area galleries and colleges.
