Boston Stock Exchange And Bentley College Announce Joint Scholarship Program

November 18, 1999

BOSTON, MA, November 19, 1999-The Boston Stock Exchange (BSE) and Bentley College today announced the first recipients of the Bentley College-Boston Stock Exchange Scholarship which was inaugurated this 1999-2000 academic year. The scholarship was established through Bentley's participation in the BSE Corporate Partnership Program, a marketing and advertising effort launched to support the Exchange's public outreach programs and to form unique public-private alliances such as this joint educational initiative.

The $20,000 scholarship fund will finance two awards this academic year, one each at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and is targeted to students from the greater Boston area who plan to pursue studies in areas of mutual interest to the BSE and Bentley and seek a future career in securities trading. The Exchange will also work with Bentley to develop specially tailored service learning programs for these scholarship recipients in addition to internship projects already being offered by the BSE to other Bentley students.

Two outstanding students have been awarded scholarships for the current academic year: Bentley Freshman Stephane Ligonde, a native of Waltham, MA, who plans to major in Economics and Finance; and John Dittami, a graduate student at Bentley College's new M.S. in Global Financial Analysis program. Mr. Dittami graduated magna cum laude from Westfield State College in 1998 with a B.S. in Economics and Finance and resides in Westfield, MA.

On Monday, November 22nd, the two scholarship recipients will ring the closing bell on the floor of the Exchange in recognition of their achievement.

"This is a first-of-its-kind endeavor for the Exchange," said Nicole J. Kalicki, Assistant Vice President of BSE Corporate Communications. "Through the Bentley College-BSE Scholarship, students will have the opportunity to combine classroom studies with hands on practical skills development. We are pleased to give back to the community through the awarding of scholarship assistance."

"The Bentley College-BSE association is a natural outgrowth of our commitment to providing the most advanced business education possible," said André Bell, Vice President for Marketing, Communication and Enrollment at Bentley College. "Our students benefit tremendously from their experience in our state-of-the-art Trading Room on campus and the fast-paced, real-world business environment of the Boston Stock Exchange. In both, they witness the integration of technology and global financial markets, and learn what it will take to succeed in related careers."
