Seminar Provides Values Exploration and Ethical Skills Development for Business Leaders
The Center for Business Ethics at Bentley College and The Saltwater Institute present a joint executive education program, “Values-Integrated Business,” on August 5 to 7, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at Bentley College in Waltham. The three-day seminar is designed to help leaders create values-integrated, ethically-committed organizations. As the U.S. economy faces the subprime mortgage crisis, mounting inflation fueled by skyrocketing energy prices, ethical scandals, and the upcoming November political elections, there is an urgent need to produce and train leaders who can manage conflict and change while operating ethically.
“We are bringing together at Bentley pioneering and innovative business executives with leaders in the field of values-integrated business and business ethics for a late summer meeting to balance ethical theory with a guided exploration of values,” notes Bob McNulty, director of programs at the Center for Business Ethics (CBE). “The program will incorporate facilitated discussions and small-group breakout sessions to allow participants to transition toward a values-integrated business model.”
The seminar will be directed by pre-eminent faculty member and CBE founder W. Michael Hoffman, as well as and Tom Chappell, cofounder and CEO of Tom’s of Maine and director of The Saltwater Institute.
Established in 1976, the Center for Business Ethics is one of the first research centers of its kind; The Saltwater Institute is a nonprofit educational foundation established in 1999 to help professionals be more intentional in practicing values integrated leadership, and it pioneered the Seven Intentions of Values-Centered Leadership program.
The unique partnership between these renowned institutions will offer business leaders a transformational experience where they can examine ethical values in the process of business management. Both individual and organizational values will be examined and honed with a view toward creating successful business strategies. The curriculum is designed for CEOs, senior executives, directors, ethics and compliance officers, consultants, and government officials. Specific components include:
- A view of governance, management, and communication through a lens of values
- A values-integrated perspective to provide a new method of productive collaboration
- Building values for strategic advantage and competitive differentiation
- Creating an environment of innovation for better communication and performance
- Building enduring and bonding relationships among team members
This uncommon executive education program provides participants an opportunity to discover and understand their own values, gain insight on ethics for building a stronger more meaningful business, and to build and strengthen foundations for ethically and financially successful organizations during this turbulent economic and political season.
