February 12, 2003

WALTHAM, Mass. - Rabbi Jeffrey A. Foust, spiritual advisor to Jewish students and member of the Bentley College Spiritual Life Team, received an honorary doctorate degree yesterday from the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) at its biennial convocation in New York. Faust, who is also Rabbi at Temple Beth Israel in Waltham, was one of thirty-nine members of the Rabbinical Assembly honored for "outstanding service to movement and community" for the past twenty-five years.

"I am thrilled to receive this honor," said Rabbi Faust. "It was a wonderful event, and I am honored to be connected to this outstanding group of people."

This is the second honor bestowed upon Rabbi Faust in the past 12 months. Last year, he received an honorary doctorate degree from Hebrew Union College in New York. Faust has served the Bentley community and Temple Beth Israel since 1998. At Bentley, he serves as advisor for Bentley Hillel, the association of Jewish students on campus. He also leads Shabbat services and weekly brunches and meetings. In addition, he teaches a class on Jewish thought at New Jewish High School in Waltham.

Prior to that, he was Rabbi at Temple Beth Shalom in Melrose, MA. Rabbi Foust resides in Newton, MA with his wife, Ellen, and their two children, Erica and David.

Founded in 1886 as a rabbinical school, The Jewish Theological Seminary today is the academic and spiritual center of Conservative Judaism worldwide, encompassing a world-class library and five schools. JTS trains tomorrow's religious, educational, academic and lay leaders for the Jewish community and beyond. Visit the JTS website at www.jtsa.edu.
