"Unity of Being" in Art Gallery
March 6, 2003
Waltham, MA- Bentley College proudly presents "Unity of Being," an exhibition appearing from March 4 through April 9 in the Bentley College Art Gallery. An opening reception with artists Sherry Autor, Berta Golahny and Judith Jaffe will be held on Friday, March 21 from 4:30-7:00 p.m.
"Unity of Being" reflects the artists' belief in the interrelationship of the human condition and its landscape. "At the beginning of the 21st century we are actually aware of the vulnerability of life on our own planet. These works of art are our response," writes Sherry Autor in her artists' statement.
"To begin painting is to set out on a journey. The journey begins not in my studio, but in the world when I am drawn to something that makes me reach for my sketchbook. With lines, marks, and few words, the page becomes a record of what has captured my attention and how I respond to it. The sources I feel drawn to are those that speak to the vastness of nature, the majestic forces and process that shape our planet, and the plethora of life forms that Earth sustains. I am deeply aware of humanity's comparative insignificance in the face of nature's awesome power and with our capability to destroy nature's delicate balance. My love for nature's bounty and vitality and my concern for its vulnerability inspire my work," Autor writes.
