Week to Raise Awareness of Disabilities
September 14, 2002
Bentley College's first annual celebration of Disability Awareness Week- themed "Attitudes are the Real Disability"- will be highlighted by a free concert by a band whose members include a blind musician.
The Neal Perry Duo will perform in the Bentley Coffeehouse on Thursday, October 10 from 8:00-10:00 p.m. The band will be available after the show to discuss disabilities in the music business and answer audience questions.
Chip Kennedy, Bentley's coordinator of disability services, will staff information tables in the Student Center and Faculty/Staff Dining Room during the week.
"Our goal for the week is to make people a little more aware of people with disabilities," Chip said. "We want to educate the community and make them aware of disability issues."
October is National Disability Awareness Month. The new position of coordinator of disability services within the Office of Counseling and Student Development at Bentley College was created last spring to expand the institute's services to students with physical, psychiatric, cognitive and other disabilities.
