“There’s a growing movement for corporate responsibility…and it’s becoming the norm in the corporate world because to get the right employee base, you have to have it,” said keynote speaker Patty Stonesifer, chief executive officer, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, speaking at the 2008 Bentley Leadership Forum on Thursday, March 27. This year’s forum was the fourth annual in collaboration with TIME; the theme was The Global Imperative to Serve the Public Good.

David Carhart, Wilder Teaching Professor of Mathematical Sciences, is the recipient of the 2008 Award for Distinguished College or University Teaching, presented by the Northeastern Section of the Mathematical Association of America (NES/MAA). The award will be presented at the NES/MAA Spring Section meeting held May 30-31 at St. Michael's College in Vermont. Carhart was also invited to present at the association's Fall Section meeting to be held in November at Bentley.

For the second consecutive year, Bentley received the 2007-2008 Prevention Excellence Award from Outside the Classroom, Inc. The award honors institutions that have achieved excellence in alcohol prevention efforts -- significantly improving the quality of student life. Jessica Greher, assistant director of Health Education and prevention coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention Programs at Bentley, accepted the award at a ceremony on March 10 at Top of the Hub in Boston.

Rob Webb, director of the Conference Center at Bentley was appointed President of the Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors-International (ACCED-I) at the Association's 28th Annual Conference held in Las Vegas in March 2008. Webb began his three-year term last year as President-elect.

Recent decisions by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) raise the issue as to whether and when the U.S. might switch from domestic to international reporting standards. Thomas J. Linsmeier, member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), will discuss the United States' move to an international reporting system at the Bentley Provost's Seminar Series on Friday, April 18, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Bentley College, LaCava Center, Danielson AB (3rd floor) in Waltham.

Approximately 200 students, 30 alumni representing 35 companies, and Bentley faculty and staff, participated in the 11th Annual Bentley Business Bowl held in February. The college-wide business case competition drew representatives from companies as diverse as CVS/pharmacy, Fidelity Investments, Steinway Musical Instruments and Target to judge student presentations.
