Weather Related Cancellation Policy

In times of severe weather conditions, it may be necessary to cancel classes and close offices. The announcement recorded on the Emergency Line, 781.891.2020, is the only official and guaranteed-to-be-accurate source of information. Although every TV and radio station listed below is called, on rare occasions these stations post incorrect information. We have no control over such errors. Please do not rely solely on one TV or radio station.

Day Cancellations
In the event that the college is closed for the day due to inclement weather, all employees scheduled to work that day will receive their regular full day’s pay. Any employee who has a scheduled vacation or personal day on a day when the college closes because of inclement weather must still record their time as vacation or personal time. Those on sick leave must record their time off as sick time. Only those who were scheduled to work that day should be compensated through the Inclement Weather policy when the college officially closes and they were not allowed to work.

Evening Cancellations
Evening classes and events are those that begin at or beyond 5:00 p.m. or are scheduled to end after 5:00 p.m. This includes "G" block classes that meet from 5:00 to 6:15 p.m. as well as graduate classes that run from 4:00 to 6:20 p.m. Cancellation of classes and office closings during the day does not necessarily mean that evening classes are also cancelled. Unless specifically stated to the contrary, evening classes will be held.

Delayed Openings
Occasionally it is necessary to delay the opening of the college until 10:00 a.m. The second class period of the day normally begins at 9:55 a.m. AM. These classes will begin at 10:00 a.m. on "delayed opening" days.

Planning for Weather Related Cancellations
Much before weather-related cancellation arises, faculty, event planners, and meeting organizers should develop and communicate their contingency plans for making up missed class work, the cancelled event or meeting. Event planners may want to pre-establish a snow make-up day or pre-designate a phone number on which to record specific information about rescheduling the event or meeting. Because of the great number of meetings, events and classes at Bentley, it is not possible to use the Snow Emergency Line for individualized announcements.
