Summer Internship in South Africa
Cape Town Internship Program

Cape Town, South Africa
Cape Town is South Africa's second most populous city and plays a central role in the economic and legislative life of the country. It is rated as one of the most beautiful cities in the world and for good reason: few cities are home to white sandy beaches, scenic hiking trails, spectacular ocean views, and a 1,086 meter flat-top mountain! Cape Town is also a city of sharp contrasts, where students can explore issues of social change and diversity and learn about new cultures.
Internship Placement
In the context of an internship, Cape Town offers unique opportunities for students to engage in projects focused on its strong but still developing economy, social justice and human rights issues, health care, and more. Bentley works together with Connect-123 Internship and Volunteer Programs to ensure that students are placed in internships that relate to their courses of study to maximize quality and academic relevance of the placement. The eight-week program consists of an on-site orientation of Cape Town and the internship experience, followed by an internship placement at a company or organization in the student's field of interest.
Possible industry sectors for interns include:
| Advertising/Design | Marketing/Sales |
| Business consulting | Public Policy |
| Communications | Social Work |
| Education | Sports Management |
| Film/Photography | Sustainable Development |
| Finance/Venture Capital | Technology |
| Journalism | Tourism/Hospitality |
| Human Rights | Youth Leadership |
| Law |
Academics
Satisfactory completion of the internship placement is required in order for students to earn credit for the program. Students must also complete an academic portfolio in addition to their work-related responsibilities. In order that students fully understand what is expected of them, the portfolio is broken down into the following sub-sections, each of which is given a fraction of the overall grade: an introduction to the professional field; daily reports; weekly write-ups; and a final analysis and conclusion. Students will communicate regularly with a Bentley faculty member in the Global Studies department who will facilitate this academic component and determine the final grade. Students earn three GLS credits.
Accommodations and Meals
Students will live in shared apartments in the Perspectives residence complex (or a similar residence), centrally located and extremely well-equipped to offer students a safe, fun and comfortable living environment. Students have the option of either a single bedroom or double bedroom, with fees varying accordingly. Each fully-furnished flat has a kitchen with modern cooking facilities, high speed internet access (see rates below), and the building has 24-hour reception. Linens and towels are provided and in-house laundry is also available. In addition, Perspectives includes a fitness center and swimming pool, sauna and sun deck, not to mention beautiful views of the city. Perspectives offers a luxurious residential environment, with easy access to internship locations throughout the city, as well as all that Cape Town has to offer.
Application Requirements
In order to apply to the Cape Town Internship Program, students should be of junior or senior level class standing, have a 3.0 GPA and approval of their departmental internship coordinator prior to acceptance of the internship.
