Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What level of GMAT score are you looking for?
A. We are targeting a GMAT score of around 650.

Q. What level of TOEFL score are you looking for?
A. We are targeting a TOEFL score of around 600.

Q. What if I have minimal work experience?
A. We believe that work experience is important for students wanting to study and teach in a business-related field. However, candidates with very strong academic credentials may be considered who have not had much managerial or business experience.

Q. I have a master’s in history, is this acceptable?
A. This would be acceptable as long as you had the business experience alongside this.

Q. I have a general idea about a research area but nothing specific. How focused and detailed should I be?
A. We are not looking for fully formed ideas at the admission stage. What we want to know is where your interests are likely to lie so that we can match you with a faculty member who will initially at least act as your primary adviser. After your first year, when you may have a clearer idea of where you want to focus, you will be asked to chose whether you want to continue with your initial primary supervisor or make a change.

Q. What kinds of research areas are Bentley faculty interested in?
A. You can go to the Bentley web site and check this out. The PhD pages under both the Business and Accountancy programs list all the faculty who could be your primary adviser. If there is a faculty member who looks to have research interests in line with your own, you can contact him or her and begin a conversation even before you submit your formal application.
