Elective Guidelines

The following guidelines are in effect for the Spring 2006 semester

ARTS AND SCIENCE ELECTIVES


Arts and Science electives are courses that are not considered
business courses. The following are considered Arts and Science
electives:

  • ART, LIT, CIN, COM, INT courses
  • Humanities and Social Science courses
  • Behavioral Science courses (AN, PS, SO)
  • MA/NS Electives (MA above those required)
  • any NS department course
  • ID courses other than ID 306, ID 350, ID 433, ID 440 and
    ID 499 Current Topics in Business
  • LA 101, 103, 104, 105, 106, 108, 109
  • ML courses
  • PH courses
  • ST 242

    Computer Courses that are Arts and Science Electives:

    CS 150, CS 180, 212, 213, 220, 221, 230, 234, 240, 280, 313, 367, 376, 380, 420, 454, 480

    Economic Courses that are Arts and Science Electives:

    EC 251, 261, 321, 323, 331, 335, 341, 343, 351 

    (May only use one in either Art/Science or Social Science Elective)

    HUMANITIES/SOCIAL SCIENCE ELECTIVES


    Humanities/Social Science electives may be fulfilled by:

    • any PH above PH 101
    • any ML courses
    • any ART, LIT, CIN, or COM course
    • ID 100, 198, 199, 202, 203, 211, 220,221, 240, 245, 260, 298, 299, 301, 304, 311, 398, 399
    • any INT course other than INT 285
    • AN, GO, HI, PS, or  SO courses
    • LA 101, 103, 104, 105, 106, 109
    • EC 251, 261, 321, 323, 331, 335, 341, 343, 351
      (May only use one EC course in either Art/Science,
      Humanties/Social Science Elective)

    BEHAVIORAL SCIENCE ELECTIVES


    Any AN, PS, or SO course at the 100 level.

    (May only take one 100 level AN, PS, or SO course for credit.)

    MA/NS ELECTIVES


    The MA/NS elective can be fulfilled by a MA course numbered 200 or higher that does not duplicate material presented in any previously taken MA course. 
    Any  AST, BIO, CHM, GEO, MSC (except MSC 304), NS, or PHY course numbered 298 or higher also fulfills the requirement.  ST 242 and NSID 305 may also be used to fulfill this requirement. NS 100 level courses are Art/Science or Unrestricted electives.

    BUSINESS COURSES


    The  following  courses  are considered  business courses:  All  AC,
    ID 306, ID 350,  ID 433, ID 440, ID 499 Current Topics in Business, IDCC,  FI,  MG,  MK, OM courses and any LA course numbered 200 or higher.

    Diversity, International, & Communication-Intensive Focused Course Requirement


    Before graduating, all Bentley students matriculating on or after Fall semester 1999, except transfer students with 30 credits, must satisfy the Special Focus Course Requirement by selecting courses from a list of approved courses that have diversity, international studies, and communications-intensive material as their focus.  In order to graduate students are required to take and pass:

    • one (1) 3-credit diversity-focused course,
    • one (1) 3-credit international-focused course, and
    • two (2) 3-credit communication-intensive courses,  one in the major and one outside the student’s major course of study.

    Courses that satisfy the communication-intensive, diversity and international focus requirement are printed in the Undergraduate Registration Booklet and are designated as C, D, and I in the focus section of each course listing.

    Minors Program Overview

     

    The faculty has approved implementation of various minors programs for undergraduate students.  Minors curricula include the successful completion of a minimum of 12 credits.  Students interested in learning  more about specific minors programs are encouraged to see the minors coordinators in each of the departments.
