Bentley Service-Learning and the Hurricane Katrina Project
Bringing the Business and the Arts Disciplines together to Assist the Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic in Alabama

The Hurricane Katrina Project was created by the Bentley Service-Learning Center in response to the devastating impact of the hurricane on the Bayou La Batre Rural Health Clinic in southern Alabama. The project uses an integrated, team-based approach to rebuild and improve the business processes of the Clinic. Students act as project managers and business consultants to create a series of deliverables for the Clinic. The deliverables include a business plan, a web page, a database design, a disaster response plan, and a media plan. Other deliverables include legal guidance applicable to the design and implementation of the web site and database, a list of state and federal government resources to aid in disaster relief, and the research and writing of several grant proposals for the Clinic.
