The Waltham Museum receives the 2006 Bentley Service-Learning Community Partner of the Year Award
Bentley Service-Learning Center (BSLC) Director Franklyn P. Salimbene presented the 2006 Bentley Service-Learning Community Partner Award to Director Al Arena and Board Member Louise Butler of The Waltham Museum. The award is given annually to a Bentley community partner organization that has shown outstanding dedication and commitment to providing an important service to the community. The award also recognizes the contribution of that organization to the Bentley service-learning program.
“I am delighted that we have been able to establish this partnership with The Waltham Museum. It is extremely exciting for me to be involved with the project from the beginning and in this particular case to watch Al Arena’s vision become a reality. BSLC sincerely appreciates the tremendous learning opportunities that will be available to our students from this partnership,” said Associate Director of BSLC Jeannette MacInnes.
BSLC works with 75 community partners or projects per semester with more than 600 students participating. This is the first time in Bentley history the award has been given to a first-year community partner.
The museum has been fortunate to have the assistance of several interns and 4th-credit students since September. Under the direction of Project Manager Sara Phillips, who planned the entire program, students have worked on cataloguing museum artifacts, developing material to produce a brochure and other marketing materials, and conducting research on museum exhibits. Students also installed a database and accounting programs onto computers donated by Bentley College.
BSLC looks forward to continuing a long lasting partnership with The Waltham Museum and thanks the museum for its contribution to the community and to Bentley.
