Faculty Resources

Welcome to the Faculty Resources pages of the Bentley Service-Learning Center (BSLC). These pages are organized to assist faculty in utilizing Service-Learning as a pedagogical component of course curricula. The materials gathered on these pages draw on resources available nationally as well as internally in the college.

First, you will find several internal Bentley resources. For instance, you can learn about the members and the mission of the Service-Learning Faculty Advisory Board. The board represents a broad cross-section of academic departments. You can also review the criteria for applying for the annual Bentley Service-Learning Faculty Award and get quick answers to general questions that faculty most frequently ask about Service-Learning. Also available are numerous hard copy resources both in the Bentley Library and in the BSLC Library in Morison 101.

Second, you can access a number of national Service-Learning resources. These resources provide overviews, illustrations, and assessment criteria relating to Service-Learning pedagogy. You can also find contact information relating to national Service-Learning organizations.

Third, you can access discipline-specific Service-Learning sites. These sites provide examples of what instructors in your discipline at other colleges and universities are doing to include Service-Learning in their courses. In each instance, we provide a brief comment on the substance of the material at the referenced site. This may help you in deciding whether you want to surf that site or pass it by. One very useful site is the Campus Compact site, which offers a range of sample service-learning course syllabi taken from universities across the country and representing many academic disciplines.
