Teaching
Philosophy
"Teach like Hell from bell to bell," was an oft-repeated exhortation from Bentley's founder to his faculty over the first half of Bentley's history. That dedication to excellence in teaching remains just as strong today.
Bentley places vital emphasis on the quality of its teacher/scholar faculty. The Faculty is committed to establishing effective teaching and learning relationships with students both inside and outside the classroom, while pursuing a scholarly and research agenda in support of the teaching mission.
Bentley enhances teaching excellence across campus, through a number of initiatives, overseen by the Wilder Professors, including mentoring activities, internal and external development programs, and promoting the scholarship of teaching and learning.
Excellence in teaching is not easily measure; a lot of intangibles come into play. It's much more than the amount of materials distributed or the type of quizzes given. It has something to do with the fundamental trust and respect engendered between the professor and the student. It's all about what happens in the heart and mind of the student. And great teaching is highly valued at the Bentley of today.
