Gearing Up: Strategic Tools for Career Advancement

This past year program featured a morning keynote by author, Good Morning America consultant, and CEO of Women for Hire, Tory Johnson.

 

 In addition, each woman participated in two interactive skill building seminars:

  • Strengthening Workplace Relationships: How to Achieve Effective Professional Interactions, Promote Your Best Self, Build Networks, and Cultivate Mentors
  • Negotiating, Persuading, and Influencing: How to Effectively Communicate (and get) What You Want
     

The day’s grand finale featured a panel of highly accomplished business women sharing their experiences and practical tips on how to best achieve professional and personal success. This panel was also moderated by Gloria Cordes Larson, president, Bentley College.

Detours and OnRamps Forum

On May 15, 2008, the Women’s Leadership Institute hosted Detours and OnRamps Forum, a one-day conference presented by the organization Detours and OnRamps: A Forum on the Issues Facing Mothers in the Workplace. This conference was designed as a practical resource for working mothers, working women considering motherhood, and mothers taking some time off from a career but planning to rejoin the workforce in some form.

Career Relaunch Expo 11/2007

The Women's Leadership Institute Launches Programming for Women Reentering Paid Work
On November 7, 2007 the WLI hosted a Career Relaunch Expo and Networking Night at Bentley College. The expo was a culimination of a professional focusing program launched this fall entitled M.O.M: More Opportunities for MOM. MOM brought women on career break together to provide them with practical tools and strategies to help them reimagine and relaunch their professional career. The November expo drew over 100 attendees from the greater Massachusetts area and featured a keynote address by speaker and co-author of Back on the Career Track, Carol Fishman Cohen.

The evening also featured remarks by Gloria Larson, president of Bentley College, who also presented the Women’s Leadership Institute's 2007 Workplace Innovations Award to iRelaunch. The Workplace Innovations Award is designed to recognize individuals or entitites dedicated to implementing unique workplace policies designed to help women in their professional advancement. This year’s recipients, iRelaunch, created by Carol Fishman Cohen and Vivian Steir Rabin, is an organization that provides outreach, resources, and information for women who have been on career break and the companies interested in utilizing this underserved talent pool.

Companies, agencies, and women who have successfully relaunched their careers were also on hand to speak with attendees.

The WLI would like to thank all who participated to make this event a success, especially the Inspirational Relaunchers who selflessly gave of their time to speak with women on career break. Gearing Up 05/2007

Women’s Leadership Institute’s Gearing Up
On May 11, 2007, the Women’s Leadership Institute hosted “Gearing Up: Strategic Tools for Career Advancement” at Bentley College. The event, specially designed for women in the first decade of their career, drew more than 200 women from a range of industries and locales. Participants attended practical, interactive workshops addressing topics such as negotiation, managing personal finances, and mastering effective self-presentation.

The Women’s Leadership Institute would like to recognize and thank the Bentley administration, faculty and staff for their assistance and continued support of the institute and its programming.
