User Research

User research is a critical driver in delivering an exceptional user experience. User research aims to understand user requirements, motivations, barriers to use, pain points, and the context of use. User research gives us valuable insights into customer behaviors and attitudes that are then translated into a set of specific, actionable recommendations. Product evaluation is focused on a comprehensive review of any product (digital or non-digital) including the usability, usefulness, emotional engagement, and accessibility. Our product evaluation services provide deep insights into the pain points, wins, and opportunities for improving the user experience. All product evaluation services provide specific, actionable design recommendations to improve the experience across any product or service. Evaluation includes products and services at every stage of fidelity as well live site testing against the competition.

Our Facilities

UXC Labs

Equipped with one-way mirrors, multiple high-definition video cameras, and superior audio quality, our labs capture every user behavior. Clients are invited to observe studies in person or remotely via a secure live stream, share recordings, and invite internal teams to witness first-hand how customers respond to an existing offering or prototype. Our UX labs have been modeled by organizations nationwide including The Mathworks, Fidelity Investments, and The National Cancer Institute.

Mobile Devices

The UXC has capabilities to evaluate designs on a variety of platforms including tablets, smartphones, and smartwatches. We deploy multiple methods of capturing user interactions and facial expressions in high resolution, including the use of ceiling mounted HD cameras, device mounted cameras, smaller overhead cameras, and screen-share. Live streaming provides our clients the flexibility of conducting sessions in our UX labs or at any location of choice.

Eye Tracking and Biometrics

The UXC has deep experience in the area of eye tracking and biometrics. The UXC uses the iMotions platform, which integrates eye tracking, facial expression analysis, and GSR (skin conductance). Together, we are able to gain a complete picture of the emotional user experience and areas of attention. The iMotions platform, including eye tracking, is portable so we can collect data in other facilities or in the field. Reports include videos, data visualizations, and UX metrics.

Physical Products

The Bentley UX labs are well equipped to evaluate physical products. The UXC has evaluated everything from electronic voting machines, to digital cameras, to coffee makers. If it has an interface – we are on it! The UX labs are well equipped to capture both facial expressions and all interactions with a product through multiple high resolution digital cameras. All user sessions are recorded and streamed live.

Portable Lab

The Bentley UX labs are completely portable, allowing the UXC staff to conduct all forms of user research on the road. The technology that the UXC gives us the ability to record and stream sessions when we are in other locations. In addition, the UXC has special equipment to capture user behaviors on mobile devices and tablets. The eye tracking and biometrics are also portable, allowing us to capture visual attention patterns and emotional engagement with individuals outside of our labs.
