Bentley Hosts Usability Boot Camp for Companies Looking to Gain Competitive Edge

March 2, 2005

Bentley's Information Design Program will bring together top companies in healthcare, financial services and technology to explore the next level of usability design at the Bentley 2005 Usability Boot Camp March 14-18, 2005

Held in Bentley's state-of-the-art Design and Usability Center, the Boot Camp was created for software and hardware designers, web architects and information designers whose companies are committed to providing a positive user experience in their marketplace. This year's 'sold-out' program includes senior project managers, usability analysts, documentation and training managers, and customer research managers.

Created in 2001, the Boot Camp, along with Bentley's Information Design Certificate program and the Master of Science in Human Factors in Information Design, showcases Bentley's commitment to exploring and improving the intersection of business, user experience and product design.

Through a combination of presentations by leading authorities, a panel of experts and hands-on workshops, the five-day program offers an unparalleled opportunity for participants to sharpen their knowledge of user-centered design methods and usability testing. The program will also include a 'live' usability test on the web site.

"The Boot Camp provides a unique opportunity to explore user-centered design from the earliest planning stages to testing a finished product," said William Gribbons, director of Bentley's Information Design Programs and Master of Science in Human Factors in Information Design. "In today's crowded marketplace for technology products and services, the most successful companies turn to user centered design and the user experience to gain an advantage on the competition."

The panel of experts features a 'who's who' of usability professionals, including:

· Staples: Colin Hynes, Director of Usability

· Fidelity Investments: Thomas Tullis, Vice President, Human Interface Design

· Verizon: Robert Virzi, Usability and Human Factors Specialist

· H&R Block: Gregg Almquist, Director of User Experience, Digital Tax Solutions

· SPM Technologies, Berlin: Bogo Vatovec, Project Management Practice Lead

· Bentley Design and Usability Center: Joseph Dumas, Senior Human Factors Specialist

This year's attendees represent top companies in several industries including Cardinal Health (CA), Caterpillar (IL), Sprint (KS), RSA Security (British Columbia), Motorola Labs (IL), Banknorth (VT), VML (MO), Modem Media (CT), Sun Microsystems (MA) and Bank of America (MA). Two independent consultants from Australia will also join the group.

In addition to Gribbons, this year's program faculty includes Meena Kothandaraman, Usability Consultant; Beth Loring, director of the Design and Usability Center; and Carolyn Snyder, Snyder Consulting.
